ALBA magazine
ALBA magazine is a printed platform for designers across all age groups, focusing on those with a passion for creativity and intrigue for the methods and skills behind the design process. Demonstrated by the expressive masthead, ALBA values the hand-made mark, a quality that is important for designers to maintain. The magazine provides insight into emerging design processes and content in the design world, through quarterly issues.

Inspired by Ellen Lupton’s 'White Space,’ the first issue reflects the idea of “cherishing the abyss” and how white space is “more than an empty vacuum.” The cover is reminiscent of a scene from outer space, whereby the photogram process has been used to communicate a vision of an empty vortex leading to the unknown. The playful use of typography and space further conveys the idea of an empty vacuum.

The issue concentrates on exploring the concepts behind the two articles 'White Space' by Ellen Lupton and 'Typeface & Typography' by Kenya Hara through the use of typography and imagery. 'White Space' explores minimalism through a purely typographical layout. In contrast, 'Typeface & Typography' visually explores the idea of the deconstruction of type through glitched imagery of photogrammed typography.
