Cardboard Furniture

As a product designer, I wanted to make a product that fits the client's requirements and is able to effortlessly fit in the environment it is placed in.  The cardboard furniture was to act as a pedestal to hold other projects on them therefore strength was important and it should have to be collapsible for easy storage when not in use.

The cardboard furniture is to replace the current pedestals which are plain boxes.  This is so that when the project is placed on the pedestal the overall visual is able to attract others to come up n find out more about the project displayed.

This project was done in teams of four. we did research on different cardboard furniture n what are the joints used to ensure the strength of the furniture, with that we came up with respective ideas on how we would like the furniture to turn out to be like.  We then proceeded on to combine the best ideas into one and then continued refining that concept.
During this project, we faced trouble making sure the idea we have for the pedestal is strong enough and able to withstand weight and additionally be able to come in different heights.  We had to consider our amount of material provided so we had to scrap ideas and come up with new ones.  Additionally, the subsequent ideas we came up with were similar in visuals to other groups so we had to continue coming up with new ideas.
In the end, we were able to come up with an idea which is strong enough to withstand weight when applied, is collapsible for easy storage, and provides interesting visuals when placed and used.

However, the client says that our idea great for industrial purposes but not quite suitable for her since it is to be placed in the school library.  From this experience, I learnt that in the future I could ask examples of the client's preference and expectation of the end product to fully clench the concept that they are looking for since my idea of what is acceptable for that criteria might not be what the client thinks.
