Cipher – PoC Motion Graphic

Cipher
An Augmented Reality Proof of Concept Motion Graphic

Cipher is an imagined app that brings the power of augmented reality and translation to your phone. Because the scope of the project is too big to allow a prototype, motion graphics can properly allow people to see what the app will be in action, and this is what this project tries to sell.

Storyboards
Storyboards and scripts can be found here on this Google Doc.

Because visualizing augmented reality through 2D motion can be challenging, I went through a number of storyboard concepts and sketches. In the end, I went back to my first 2 storyboard sketches, since it was the most literal and was the easiest to understand.

I went back and forth on whether the motion graphic should be strictly abstract or strictly literal, but after going through 6 revisions, I decided to use the idea of a purple dot connected with other dots as the only abstract idea and incorporated it with literal iconography and illustrations.

My script also went through a number of changes, at first with a lot of monologue so to compensate for the animation times. The final script has been cut to its almost bare essentials so that the motion can be easier to follow along.
