SmarterLearning is a fictional campaign about promoting in-depth learning of software tool. Nowadays software provides comprehensive-function tools to help user to achieve sophisticated effect easily. But the consequence is the inversion of working process: some designers tend to find a concept to fit the cool effect, not to create a unique visual solution for a concept. Especially for the students, it’s important to understand how a tool actually works, instead of just knowing one or two effects which the tool can achieve. With more fundamental knowledge of the software, designer can have more power to achieve what they want to do. This campaign aims to call people’s attention to this problem.
I chose drop shadow as a start point because all the designers should be familiar with this tool, then I tried to build my concept building on the drop shadow tool. I used circle to represent the individual idea and I used box to represent the limitation which could be caused by the tool. To prove my point, I tried to restrain myself from using some fancy effect. I only used basic function in After Effects like position, rotate, scale, speed graph etc.
