Ephemeral Monument - My Biggest Dream and Fear

Each answer tells a different story, representing a different worldview.

“There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve:
the fear of failure.” Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

This artwork is designed in the hope of reminding people of their biggest dreams and fears. As an ephemeral monument, it is designed to encourage reflection of people’s own lives, instead of recognizing a historically important event or person. It helps each passerby to confront their biggest dream and fear by seeing others’ dreams and fears.

Surprisingly, I found that some dreams are connected with its counterparts, such as “to be happy and loved” and “never being loved”; “being successful” and “not getting a job”.
Each answer tells a different story, representing a different worldview. I would like this work to be a bridge that helps passerby connect with each other. The process of this artwork is recorded in the video link below.

Using the information collected, I designed two versions of posters and installed them into a public space in Baltimore.
