To Lock in To Lock out

The aim of this work was creating a collaborative project with solidarity and contribution by annihilating domination and hierarchy. The project was inspired by Novel “The Dispossessed”. It was published in 1974 by Ursula K. Le Guin.

It is a utopian science fiction novel. It is set in the Hainish Cycle universe. The story follows Shevek, a native of the moon, Anarres. Throughout the book, Le Guin wavers between which world would be the Utopian world. Although Anarres has a strong brotherhood, they are closed minded and isolated. Urras is beautiful, but their laws and people are violent.

Project was a collaboration between two disciplines which are ceramic and video by ceramic artist Funda R. Baysal and I. We tried to connect two world’s lands: Annares’ Dust and Urras’ vegetation. The installation consisting of 64 pieces of ceramics and 43 seconds video is exhibited in the gallery. Every ceramic and photo out of all represent one of 10 days of our living in Rotterdam.

Ceramic pieces installed on the wall and the video projected on top of ceramic works. Every piece represent ten days of life -the only time unit in the planet Anarres is decat: 10 days of period- spend of the artist from the day the journey started till the day the exhibition has been presented in one of the galleries in Rotterdam, Foundation Mesh.
