PASSION IS BULLSHIT

PASSION IS BULLSHIT
Often times, growing up, when I confessed that I wasn't quite sure what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, I was told simply to "find my passion" -- to find the one thing that I cared about more than anything else in the world and also just so happened to be really good at and could make into a career. That's kind of a lot, is it not?

Yet, that phrase comforted me when all I was concerned about was whether or not I'd figure out what I was good at -- according to everyone else, it would sort of just fall into my lap. I'd stumble across it like a stray kitten, take it in, and exploit it for monetized views on the internet (kidding).

But in reality, what this phrase did was limit me, and teach me not to put any effort into my hobbies or interests, especially if I wasn't immediately good at them.

The truth is that I have dozens of passions -- writing, lettering, typography, drawing, design, social justice, equality, feminism, cooking, eating, kickboxing, music, singing, the environment -- and our world is much too complex and multifaceted for us to just have one passion.
