Topsy Turvy - Paintings

I have been exploring this series since 2001 and it has transformed over time. Some express the frustration of a conflicted identity, while some are more playful expressions. I have worked on an off on this idea while also exploring other themes. I think I come back to the Topsy Turvy doll because of the complexity of my American identity and how well this image facilitates this conversation.
