THE TCHAIKOVSKY OPERA AND BALLET THEATRE

The subject of this project is the Perm Academic Opera and Ballet Theater in the contest design project of the studio of Sergei Skuratov.
The old building of the theater was built by the architect Karvowski in 1874. The Perm Theater of opera and ballet was given the name of Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky, who became the spiritual patron of the theater.
In different years, all the operas and ballets of Tchaikovsky were performed on the Perm stage, which determined the unique style of the theater. The second spiritual patron of the theater was the great impresario of the 20th century, Sergei Pavlovich Dagilev, who made a great contribution to the development of the theater. Lev Stephen Bakst participated in the design of many productions on the Perm stage.
Perm Theater is characterized by non-standard staging decisions of the classics, development of modern musical material and non-trivial festival projects. Perm is rightfully called the third ballet mecca in the country.
The concept of Skuratov's workshop was developed within the framework of the international competition for the best development project. The task is to significantly increase the space while visually preserving the scale of the existing building.
Skuratov‘s idea was to attach an L-shaped volume behind the existing theater building.
The classical building also sets the central axis of the composition of the square. The total area of the new building is 33,000 square meters. The bulk of the new stage is located directly behind the existing theater building.
In regard to the rich history and traditions of the theater, I would suggest expanding its function to create a major cultural center and the heart of Perm.
I propose to create such a theatrical environment within this quarter; this will include: The old building of the theater, the new building, including lobbies, a new modern hall, restaurant, buffet, theater studio, entrance group, landscaping, underground gallery, amphitheater, pond, and open spaces. Based on the new functional organization of the square, namely the proposal with the input group, the emphasis of the axes of the space review on the new building is transferred, the new axis will link the newly organized open spaces with the new building, and at the intersection of the axes the main center of the composition of the intra-quarter space becomes the entrance to the art underground gallery. The center of life of the square was moved forward, which allows you to include new spaces, and to organize the square in a new way in the advent of a new life.
With regards to the re-planning of the general space, the composition breaks up into two directions: the old one and the new one.
In the old one, I opt for the structure of the formation of a traditional theater with a change in small inclusions of novelty, and in the new one I unleash new content to link and organize new moves within it.
Both new and old trends are integral parts of the complex, therefore they interpenetrate each other. With regards to the new structure there are also new premises, like the lobby in front of a new modern hall, a children's theater studio, a restaurant, and a drama hall.
As a designer, I would like this complex to fit into the urban environment, so that the city center of culture could be realized, where the spiritual and cultural life of the city could be concentrated, and it would also be possible to host major theatrical and ballet festivals.
