My kitchen scale is made of plastic and glass. 

The elasticity of the plastic balloon allows the inner part to bend and so weigh the capacity. I wanted to play with the transparency of the glass in order to see the mechanism. I desired some interaction between the two materials. The glass deform the plastic.
