Jules Gawlik's profile

1916: His Plan of Attack

1916: His Plan Of Attack is the third production in Sean Lang’s Great War cycle of plays and tells the story of Sir Douglas Haig and his plan to launch a major offensive in 1916 on the Somme. For the shows in Anglia Ruskin University’s own Mumford Theatre I have contributed all paper-based props and stationery.
Working with genuine 1916 ephemera as my primary sources I created military documents, personal letters, envelopes and telegrams based on the narrative of the script. This process involved the use of digital software to recreate typographic elements according to the time period as well as handmade calligraphy and manipulation of paper through tea-staining. Details were added through handmade World War I postage and rubber stamps.
