Sleep In A Cave. And Like It.
The words “cave” and “luxury” don’t often appear in the same sentence, but here at theYunak Evleri Hotel, one simply couldn’t exist without the other. Nestled into the small village of Ugrup, Turkey, Yunak Evleri is every bit as magical as the region in which it resides—Cappadocia. Known for its surreal rock formations, underground cities and “fairy chimneys,” a visit to Cappadocia can feel more like a trip outside the Milky Way. Yunak Evleri’s six cave houses, and 35 rooms that date all the way back to the 5th and 6th centuries, magnificently encapsulate the wonder of the area. Rooms are warmly decorated in simple Ottoman style, touched with the pleasures of the 21st century, like a mini bar, an iPod or iPad dock, and luxurious marble bathrooms with Swedish jets and stream showers or jacuzzis to melt away a day’s hiking. Watch the sun go down over the rocks on your outdoor patio (every room has one), or enjoy a glass of Turkish wine in one the hotel’s common areas, where the ever-smiling staff can provide you with Turkish pillows and lanterns, or light a fire for you, in one of the many stone fireplaces scattered throughout the property. If you need more of a technology fix, enter the gorgeously carved wooden doors of the music room, which is fully equipped with free Wi-Fi, a computer for guests to use, a vast collection of CD’s, DVD’s and a home theatre system. Breakfast is served in a 19th century Greek mansion, where classical music provides the background as you feast on fresh local fruit, yogurt, honey, and other typical breakfast fare. Dinner is served in the same building, with the option of al fresco dining on the rooftop. Itching to go explore? You’re in good hands. Proprietor Abdullah Inal is more than happy set up any excursion you fancy, from renting a car to taking a hike to floating up, up and away in a Hot Air Balloon Ride at dawn. The only problem we foresee is never wanting to check out.
