Mexico Dulce y Querido

I was selected for an International poster design contest called Bienal Internacional del Cartel en Mexico (BICM), along with my former professor Antonio Castro H. and Eme Design Group representing El Paso. The contest had different categories, I participated and was chosen for the Category E which was called Mexican Traditional Sweets “Mexico Lindo y Querido” in collaboration with Grupo Beta San Miguel. The subject was to translate the colors, flavors, and sensation the Mexican sweets, representing the mixture of indigenous roots with the Spanish culture in the creation of the emblematic artisan sweets of the Mexican culture. Learn more about it here http://www.bienalcartel.org/15bicm_en.html

My posters are attached and the pink poster with the pan dulce was selected. I was trying to place the Mexican sweets as a celebration of the Mexican culture and decided to use typical Mexican celebrations or “bailes tipicos” to best represent this. The first poster is a celebration with Danza de los Quetzales from Puebla with a Paleta/Chupirul, The second poster is a dancer of the danceJarabe Tapatio from Jalisco with a Concha/Pan Dulce, and the last poster is representing the famousDanza de los Viejitos from Michoacan with a candy called borrachitos.
