The Shining Minimalist Poster

My favorite graphic designer, Saul Bass, created the original poster for the Shining and I wanted to make my own version using his minimalism style he became so well known for with the Otto Preminger and Alfred Hitchcock films in the 50s. Using the original typeface he handout and Kubrick's favorite typeface, Futura, I assemble something that reminds me of the poster for Anatomy of A Murder. I utilized a still from the film when Jack Torrance leaves Room 237 since it was a great pose of Nicholson but also shows the giant patterned carpet. I wanted a silhouette of Jack because he's already iconic to the imagery of the movie and using the color included on the carpet implies that he is part of the carpet in the same way that he becomes part of the Hotel.
