The fragments of humanity

Project: Mobilné fotodielne 2018
Organized by: Galéria umelcov Spiša

As you enter a hospice for seniors with a camera, you somehow expect elderly people telling you to go and shoot someone younger or more handsome, you expect listening to life stories that might touch your heart or make you smile. What you do not expect, though, is the feeling of loneliness in the house full of people, who would have so much to tell to each other. But still, the degree of misunderstanding, of battling on your own, is appaling. The reasons might be different for everyone, for some it is a disease which does not allow them to socialise, for some it is incredulity and for others the feeling of being forlorn, abandoned, as they had lost all the family relatives or not having the best of relationships with them. And so they struggle, alone, in a place where hardly anyone cares about their story (although the personnel is really caring and kind). Some of these elderly people would give you everything, they touch and kiss your hand, and even though their speech is inarticulate, you understand the message in this little gesture. It is the solidarity and proximity of human nature that drives our souls together. Everything else is overrated.
