History of Visual Communication

Brief
To study a form/medium of visual communication and to trace its evolution over time.
Form chosen : Autobiographical Graphic Novels
Autobiographical graphic novels are mature form of the comic book where the flexibility of the medium is used by the authors to explore their deepest and often darkest thoughts. They often deal with dark subject matter and are almost exclusively drawn in black and white.
Process
A few years back I had created an autobiographical comic as part of an online course in comic books and graphic novels. The course gave me significant insight into the power of the comic medium:
