This is my rough draft for my line is value project. In this project we had to copy an image of an elephant by only using line work. This immediately made me think of optical illusions. That is how I came up with these designs. The hardest part was trying to pick which illusion to put on the finished project. I wish I would have played a little more with the text idea so see how it would turn out. I also wish I had thicker markers to achieve a more dramatic difference in the first line of examples. I'm happy with the illusions I did pick though.
This is my finished project! I decided to not outline the project to go along with the optical illusions. It was tough deciding where to place the illusions since I still wanted the picture to breathe and I know optical illusions can sometimes be heavy. I decided to just do light line work on the parts of the image that has more highlights and dark lines on the parts that were more contoured. If I were to do this project again, I would make my sections smaller and try and find different variations of optical illusions, rather than a bunch of bold lines. I think that would make the image more readable as an elephant. Other than that I think once you know its an elephant then its a great image. I'm happy with how this project turned outing think I would try and do this again with Illustrator to try out different illusions without having to hand draw it out.
