Pettigrew Monument Project

R.F. Pettigrew Monument Project

How do you honor a man who was larger than life? Who brought industry, jobs, and the railroad to Sioux Falls, South Dakota? With a 10 foot statue, that's how! On May 24, 2013, after years of vision and preparation, R.F. Pettigrew was immortalized in bronze and installed at his permanent location at the entrance of Philips to the Falls near the archway at 5th St. and Philips Ave. The mission of the R.F. Pettigrew Monument is to recognize the important role that he played in Sioux Falls’ and South Dakota’s early years. He was a fearless advocate not only for Sioux Falls but for South Dakota. Pettigrew was elected as South Dakota's first U.S. Senator. He served from November 2, 1889 to March 4, 1901. Sioux Falls area sculptor, Darwin Wolf was the artist who realized the casting of Pettigrew's bronze sclupture. Insight Marketing Design was the communication and advertising firm for the R.F. Pettigrew Monument Project.
