Book Cover Composition

A book cover is perhaps one of the greatest ways to captures a viewers interest. A good book cover contains elements that symbolize curtain components of the story. I have organized my book cover of Peter Pan to do just that.
For my rendition of the cover to James Barrie's classic, Peter Pan, I made sure to incorporate objects in the imagery that were applicable to the story. For the image on the cover, I took a picture focusing on the thimble by centering it in the layout. I did this because the thimble plays an important part of one scene in the story. Those who are familiar with Peter Pan will know that the thimble is what Wendy gives Peter as a "kiss" or promise at the beginning of the friendship between the two. Newcomers to the story will wonder the about the covers meaning until it is revealed to them as they read.

The color scheme of green and gold was also done intentionally. The green is a common theme to Peter Pan's Character and description, and the gold represents the magic the story contains. The diamond shapes on the spine of book represent stars or pixie dust, and the font of the title nods to the old style found on adventure novels. As all of the element of the imagery and typography come together, it convey's a since of wonder that is captivating.

As viewers walk past this cover in a bookstore or library, they will be compelled to embark on this wild adventure.
