HAWA Campus
The goal of the design was to envision a strong and representative new campus for one of the leading sliding mechanism developers in the world; HAWA. Location is set in Mettmenstetten, small village of 800 inhabitants, south of Zürich, Switzerland. Our design puts a clear emphasis on the sliding technologies, benefiting both employees as well as public image of the company. Especially strong element is the front facade, facing village, which is a long landscape element, defined by a sliding shading system in the office floor.
We took advantage of the slight terrain difference and made public area directly accessible from the most prominent side of the site; from the train station and village itself. Public have thus a direct access to the heart of the campus. On the industrial part we positioned warehouse taking advantage of existing truck path. Offices in the second floor have both side orientation with a terrace on the rooftop.
By dividing warehouse into two parts, we enabled direct delivery of components in different stages. Production line is simple, linear and clear. Public can follow this process from the side, displaying premium quality of HAWA products and their emergence at the company.
Initial wish of the HAWA was future oriented design, which would enable extension in the future. We decided to realize it by using modular wood construction. Therefore a typical section of the building already includes all of the program needed for the operation of the building.
