This artwork, ‘Spatial Lies’ was conceptualized at a beach clean-up in November 2018. I found the segment of drywall in the sand as I was removing bags full of bottles and an array of plastic trash. I decided to use the drywall for a pollution artwork. Most of the materials used are sourced from the garbage/found trash, except for the living object, planted in a carved hole. The succulent represents both the prevalence of nature despite our environmental crisis and in contrast, it’s threatened existence in a world making no effort to live sustainably. From the front (as pictured above) the visual image is evidently problematic but still clean. At the back, I arranged a multitude of found trash, pieces of corrugated iron and plastic to depict society hiding the destructive remains of their seemingly efficient creations.
