Kitchen Talks: the food and culture of Timor-Leste

Kitchen Talks: the food and culture of Timor-Leste was a community arts project that involved memories of the first generation Timorese immigrants in celebrating their culture through images, recipes and stories collected in the kitchen with photographer Jorge de Araujo and writer Carmelita Gomes. Friends of Suai/Covalima partnered to deliver the exhibition in March 2013 and a fundraising dinner at the St Kilda Town Hall that attracted over 260 people. The food of Timor Leste was prepared by the Timorese Association of Victoria and local Timorese musicians performed at the event.

The postcard design celebrated the photography and storytellers, and the recipe on the reverse connected to the very personal cuisine.
