When Roel Vandermeeren encounters a situation, issue or problem, he often responds with a performative or sculptural sketch, which can then lead to a painting. Painting as a continuous stream of action and reaction; a flux that also characterises his way of life and thinking. Vandermeeren therefore does not limit himself to one medium: in addition to painting, he also uses performances, installations, sculptures, interventions, etc. In which his own experiences are always a central theme. These are observations and findings that he remarks during both his personal and artistic growth process. Situations of which he thinks it could be different. In this way Vandermeeren acts autobiographical and investigates his role as an artist in our world. This at a time when a huge amount of information is available. And so, the artist frolics through our eclectic world, full of encounters and findings, where he continues his search for identity.
