AFCON 2019 Poster Design (Unofficial)

After Egypt won the right to host AFCON 2019,

designers community in Egypt started a campaign to visualize the identity of such an event.
Mostly fan art but great pieces were created in this #African_challenge.
And this will be my piece for this campaign, as a proposed poster design for AFCON 2019.

The concept was to establish sense of challenge within a mood of Egyptology, references from ancient temples, tombs and artifacts were taken into consideration.

The Process

Mood Board

The most important of this piece was to promote a sense of exploration for all people of Africa towards Egypt's ancient civilization. In order to achieve this, mood board was collected from artifacts and ancient locations to be used as inspiration during the whole process.

Structuring the scene

A scene of ancient tomb was to be created, hence the burial chambers seen in mood board were used as direct reference, for the idea is to create a similar scene with a centerpiece: the trophy of AFCON.

Point of converging lines was used to maintain focus on the trophy.

Creating the hieroglyph walls

In absence of suitable resource images for the wall with desired angles and dimensions.

I created the wall from scratch using hieroglyph signs and converting them into shapes in Adobe Illustrator, applying perspective then exported to Photoshop.

In Photoshop, I was able to add texture, depth and lights to achieve realistic look.
