Castle Hunting: Blackness Castle
An exploration of Blackness Castles stunning ship shaped footprint, the key buildings on the site and rugged brutish place in history. This 15th century fortress sits just past the township of Blackness facing out upon the Firth of Forth, serving as a stronghold to Sir George Chrichton. It was built upon further centuries before it fell to Oliver Cromwells army. In more modern times Blackness was used as a military base and ammunition dump in World War one. It has also seen many a film site including most recently Netflix's Outlaw King and the TV series Outlander.
