THE ILLUSTRATION OF A LOVE STORY
Designing the Print Material for My Wedding

My husband and I decided to get married in Las Vegas on a whim. In certain ways that decision took away some of the details which make every couples' wedding unique, but thereby greatly lessened the stress associated with the planning process. In 10 weeks I designed our personal monogram, invitations, information cards, mailing labels, and envelopes, all within accordance of our chosen themes. Each item was printed, packed, and shipped to friends and relatives about 6 weeks in advance. Within two months after the wedding, I then designed our thank-yous and included two postcards, of which each featured photography from the ceremony.

Our courtship led us through national parks, over fossilized remains, mountain ranges, and grasslands, then beneath a solar eclipse, and later a meteor shower. Just as the splendor of the natural world brought us closer together, our wedding themes revolved around the destination itself: the American Southwest. The invitations feature gemstone colors and patterns (opal, turquoise, emerald, alexandrite, onyx), and elements of meteorite, copper, and sandstone. The geometric pattern was influenced by the diamond-shaped onyx gemstone pendant I wore during the ceremony. Lastly, the choice of typeface is based on a combination of the way we met, via e-dating, and our shared adoration of the fantasy novel The Princess Bride. Various beloved quotes from the book or the movie appeared on the invitations and in our vows.

The invitations and accompanying information cards were printed double-sided on pearly cardstock,
and mailed in metallic copper envelopes with custom liners.
A pair of color and black + white photo cards for our guests, plus a handwritten thank-you.
They were mailed in metallic silver envelopes.
