I wanted to start this series by creating a piece about the loss of my 16 year old dog, and how she was a symbol of not only the end of my childhood, but the end of the only thing I held affection for as a child. The large color field allows for a lonely, isolated feeling, and the dead, blank eyes, give the viewer a wider sense of emotion. As I deal with the emotional transition of adulthood and becoming responsible for my actions, I continually feel isolated from my innerself. This piece begins a long journey of self discovery in hopes to find the self respect I feel has been lost.

Using a found family photograph, I wanted to create a heavy atmosphere; centered on themes of sexuality, mental illness, and what it means to be happy. There is so much mystery, an element of searching, and I am interested in the ideas of genetics, and how growing up in a certain environment affects certain people.
