Photochromies

Photochromies started as an explorative project. I began by cutting my medium format contact sheets made over the past 6 years into 2 1/4" square pieces, separating them by color. Using an intuitive approach to balance, color, and rhythm, I tiled the pieces together. What emerged moreso than a collage of subjects and objects was a survey of my experiences of light and color as recorded photographically. Working this way, I created what I call 'color compositions' to stand as a testament not to the individual experience that each photograph captures, but rather to my experience of light in a series of places over an expanse of time. Following the purpose of the traditional contact sheet, the dimensions and arrangement of prints varies.
