When I have conference calls, and I'm listening to some marketing director prattle on as if they have the secret to the creative universe I must hear before I start a project I grab a note pad and doodle so that my mind doesn't wander. Drawing helps me focus and remember things.
At the end of one of those type of calls I ended up with this sketch, and I loved it.
I decided I wanted to flesh out this artwork and see where it led, so I refined my drawing.
Once I have a refined sketch done I scan it in and build on top of it in illustrator. Between the above-refined sketch and the vector building, I decided to add more imagery to this visual narrative and added the winged character. The whole process is documented in my DVGLab.com weekly series here.
