I was asked to photograph an object and use the symbolism to make a book cover for a classic title. The title I chose was The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: The Hound of the Baskervilles.

The skull represents the deaths of the people that occurred in the adventure. It is the symbol of the curse that has haunted the Baskervilles since the English Civil War. The background represents the mystery that is in the history and the deaths.
