My submission for the 2017 D&AD Penguin Books cover design brief.
The Finch children fear the reclusive and misunderstood Boo Radley. The adults fear the unjustly demonised Tom Hawkins. It is the kids in To Kill A Mockingbird who confront their ignorance far better than the rest of their racially divided community.
I use the imagery of shadow play and children's fantasies to mirror the deception and scaremongering of the adults, and ultimately the book itself - a white fantasy of black injustice.
