MACÉ - a modern mace

We had 4 weeks for this project. Our assignment was to design a weapon. This topic is definitely controversial in the design community. For me a controversial topic is way more fun then "design a chair, lamp or vase". We were left with a completely free hand to determine what a weapon is, how complex of a object we want to create. This topic was vastly up to our own interpretation.

The result of our work was a vast assortment of different "weapons" (for example a Slovakian walking stick with an axed end "valaška", a water guns, tasers, self-defence alarm and even a video-game vehicle from the future)

I chose a mace, because it is a weapon which has been by the side of humanity since a human attached a heavy object to the end of a stick to bludgeon his enemies. I thought that a "mace" as an object represents our age-old barbaric tendencies. By bringing the design language of this mace into the contemporary, I am basically saying that some things never change - we are still s*** throwing monkeys that are internally sadistic and cruel. By softening the design to make the object almost suited to be put in a kitchen next to the cutlery, I am reacting to how normalised violence is.

Oh yeah,

and we also had to make a model.
