CAPSTONE RESEARCH & PLANNING

CAPSTONE RESEARCH & PLANNING
Philadelphia University, Fall 2010

This semester-long course sets the parameters for the independent Capstone Design Project.  It culminates with a published book that compiles project type selection, extensive background research, case studies, topical explorations, site analysis, existing building documentation, program development, and design objective proposals.  The findings are then applied to the final comprehensive interior design of the project in the spring semester.

The objective of this particular project is to explore how the design of physical space plays a role in community development.  The Community Arts Center will create a public space where its design will draw the neighborhood together.  As a natural means of expression, art will be used as a tool for communication and the development of both individual and group identity and pride.  The programming, space planning, and overall interior design will embody these objectives.
