Project 1: Classical Music Poster
Design a poster that translates and communicates the essence of a classical music composition. Concepts
must be communicated using abstraction rather than pictorial representation. Focus on the rhythm,
position and direction of the lines and create a composition that captures the experience of listening to
the song, rather than using the lines to create a recognizable image. The poster is intended to capture
the rhythm, movement, sound, emotional impact and overall meaning of the specific piece of music. Be
in control of the visual elements you use - nothing should be unintentional.
Objectives:
- Develop a sensitivity to the basic principles of design.
- Develop an understanding of how negative space is used to strengthen a composition.
- Use color to convey emotion.
- Develop the ability to use abstract visual elements to create communication.
- Develop technical skill in using Adobe InDesign and Illustrator.
