So What is the Purpose of a Hot Tub?

A two, three, four or more person tub filled with hot aerated water is a hot tub.  You can find them existing separately or positioned next to a pool.  People love hot tubs for a wide variety of reasons.  So what is the purpose of a hot tub?

1. For Fun
You have a bunch of friends over for a pool party.  They arrive wearing their bathing suits, and you’ve got the lounge chairs and the barbecue out.  People spend time in your refreshing pool, and then they go directly to your hot tub.  In the hot tub, everyone enjoys the warm bubbly water while they talk and drink beer.  Enjoying a hot tub is a fun thing to do with friends.

2. To Enjoy the Outdoors at Night
If your hot tub is outside, spending time in it at night is a great way to enjoy the outdoors.  While relaxing in the tub, you can take in the sounds of nighttime nature, look at the moon, and experience a quiet evening under the stars.

3. For Romantic Evenings
You’re married, or you have a significant other, and you own a hot tub.  There are many ways to have a romantic evening with your loved one, but one way is to relax in a hot tub together.  Being together naked in a hot tub, each of you with a glass of wine, is a sexy and romantic way to spend time with each other when you have the privacy to do it.  Just remember to be well-hydrated, to not drink too much wine in a hot tub, and to not spend too much time in a hot tub.  Spending 15 to 20 minutes in the top, before moving on to other activities, is plenty.   You don't want to get dehydrated or overheated.

4. For Relaxation
You’ve had a hard day at work.  Now you’re home, and the only thing you want to do is step inside your hot tub to relieve the stress you’ve been experiencing all day.  Sitting in a hot tub is a great stress reliever and relaxation encourager.

5. To Relieve Pain
Not only are you stressed, but you’ve got a headache, and your back is killing you.  Sitting in the hot tub, with the combination of the bubbly water and the heat, can reduce muscle pain, muscle soreness, and headaches.    As the water gently hits your body, you relax while your body is pampered by the water in the tub.

6. To Reduce Arthritis
Are you an arthritis sufferer? Harvard Medical School reports that spending time in a hot tub can reduce arthritis pain.  This is known as a form of heat therapy, and all you need is 15 to 20 minutes a day.

7. To Encourage Sleep
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, or the CDC, as much as one in three adults don’t get enough sleep. (2)  Spending time in a hot tub, right before bed, can relax you enough to encourage falling asleep and staying asleep when you leave the hot tub and get in your bed.

What is the purpose of a hot tub?  As this article illustrates, there are lots of purposes from just having fun to doing something good for the body.
