I love space. But not real space, I’m talking about the silly kind
depicted in Futurama and Spaceballs. There’s something about that childlike perspective of “maybe there’s aliens” and “maybe I could discover a new planet” that makes me want to tell stories. That’s one of my biggest goals when I’m making my work - I want to have fun!
The aesthetic in this film is just as important to me as the characters; it's the spirit of the story. I hear the words of Captain Kirk, "space, the final frontier," and take them totally literally.
This was my thesis film, but in a lot of ways I used this project to learn how to animate. 90% of it was animated in Photoshop, with the rest completed in After Effects, and compiled in Premiere. My main constraint was my program's deadline, but in a way, it ended up being a good thing because it forced me to structure my time efficiently. This project has taught me things I'll carry with me for the rest of my life.
