Knot Art Project Proposal
The Idea of Knot Art was passed on to me by my father, Charlie Hastings. Knot art is created by the process of splitting and book matching an interesting board with knots and grain patterens to creat a symmetrical design, like a Rorschach test.
The Knot Art Project is a multi-artist collaboration in which artist reference a piece of bookmatched wood to create an original interpretation.
Like a Rorschach test each artist individually interprets what they see to create a visual display by drawing, painting, sculpting, photographing, or printing. This allows the viewer of the work to see each artists vision and process.
Here are some examples of what a few friends and I have put together to illustrate the conceptual idea of the project.
