Sixteen

Intro
Sixteen is about the struggles I've encountered this past year and specifically the effects depression had on me. I used a voice over as well as visual cues to emotionally move the audience and give some insight as to how I've felt about it all. I wanted my main focus of the film to be on color because it’s a clear thing that can be used to symbolize different emotions. I did a lot of color correcting for this reason to set the tone as well as keep with the theme of aesthetic media and personal narrative.

Design Choices
Color correction within premiere pro was a huge part of my project because I used color to convey emotion and tell a story. In some shots I amplified warmer tones and added yellows to show good emotions and in others I used lots of blues and even took down the saturation in the yellows to show happiness fading into sadness. In After Effects I did frame by frame by frame line animations with either blue or yellow to show how each memory makes me feel and keep the flow clear and not confusing. The animations took up a huge chunk of my time since every line had to be drawn and/or redrawn on each individual frame. One second of video took anywhere from 25 minutes to an entire hour to complete. The entire project has 1,179 individual brush strokes across 24 seconds and 5 frames.
