To create a new and sustainable material, I experimented with the waste material asparagus shell. In Germany, white asparagus is ripe within spring time. In order to eat it, people remove the hard shell and usually throw it away.
The shell being made out of strong fibers is the perfect starting point to innitiate the project. First off, I collected the shells from family and friends. Then, I dried it in sunlight, to extract the water and make it more durable. With a self-made, natural, biodegradable and organic glue, I was able to create a versatile and strong material, that in some cases even felt like leather.
