Ugly Pretty Boi

"Ugly Pretty Boi" (2018)  is a conversational photography series that depicts the frustration and the black beings journey of self-hate, self-love, and activates a dialogue that pertains to the value of oneself and how over time people of color have inherited a habit of depreciating their value, and questioning their existence. This series seeks to aid the viewer to reflect and ask themselves questions such as: “Where does this fixation on black bodies wanting to change themselves stem from?” “Why do black beings begin to hate themselves?" And "Why is the idea of loving one’s authentic self so obscure?" This series explores my personal journey and anguish of not loving who I am, and not being able to acknowledge my own beauty. In Ugly Pretty Boi I display my journey in search for the allure, magnificence, and excellence in my skin, and in my heritage, culture, and community.
