“This tongue cuts” (2019)

This project I continue to experiment with moving images and performance art, referencing ritual movement and praise dancing to understand a genuine and authentic form in terms of self— I use the body and the way it shifts and swells as a metaphor for language. I create and manipulate sound mixes that aids my theme of the importance of black vernacular and dialect in the black community and my own experience with language and how I move and interact with others in my community. I want to depict how language moves when in a space/ and or community that doesn’t accept it and when black vernacular is constantly corrected and when trying to conform to white americas standards of language and how that is visually embodied and depicted in abstracted forms and movements and experimental sounds and gospel via glitch.
