When it came time to design a summer camp guide for the McLean Community Centers constituents, I had to solve two problems: how to get children excited about the camps, and how to display the information in an efficient manner to help parents find the perfect activity for their young ones.

I settled on a superhero theme, in an effort to capitalize on the current zeitgeist. To borrow a term from the comic vernacular, the results could not have been more spectacular. My organization was not exactly known for compelling design work in the past. I had been hired only a few months before creating the guide, and had been working hard to raise our brand in the eyes of our constituents. The Camp Guide succeeded in doing so, and the Center received multiple e-mails to compliment us on it. Camp registration filled up quickly, and the bar for our institution was permanently raised.
