As a personal project that is not officially connected to the restaurant in any way, I redesigned the menu for Cafe Gratitude in Kansas City.
Cafe Gratitude offers a menu that is entirely plant based, uses locally sourced products, solar energy, and to-go packaging that is recycled and recyclable. To honor this earth-friendly approach to dining, I used sheets of recycled paper for the main structure, and hemp cord for the binding. The lettering on the cover and the illustrations of tree branches are loosely hand-drawn in order to keep a light-hearted mood throughout the design.
Typography choices:
Headers are "Typewriter Scribbled," downloaded from 1001fonts.com with a free for commercial use license.
Body text is in Shree Devanagari, available through Adobe Creative Cloud.
Title text is hand drawn and vectorized, based loosely on Big Caslon as well as the restaurant's existing logotype.
Since every ingredient is listed in each of the dishes, I used a two-column layout in order to allow room for the item descriptions.
The menu structure is meant to be small and easily handheld, to compensate for the "cozy" seating at the restaurant (at tables made from repurposed wood!).
