THE CHALLENGE_
21st Century Citizen was a collaborative journal among my university peers where we aimed to bring attention to prevalent issues in society today. Being tasked with the chapter surrounding racism and representation, I chose to explore how race is specifically depicted within the media of today. Focusing on the subject of whitewashing in TV and film I aimed to provoke conversation around the industry's seemingly 'black and white' approach to the matter.
EDITORIAL.
Using a headshot style image to depict the TV and film industry, I layered the double W’s from WhiteWashing to act as crosses through the actors image, representative of how they seemingly already have a cross against their name. The inverted effect the crosses have over the image are suggestive of what the industry prefers.
