Museum of Man Exhibition Postcards
The Museum of Man is an anthropological and historical museum based in San Diego, California, known for its renowned and popular exhibits such as Living with Animals, Cannibals, and more. In order to extend the museum's presence beyond its local community, the Engagement department of the museum commissioned the Marketing and Design department to create illustrative postcards that can be purchased in the gift shop. The postcards are intended to help spread awareness of the museum and leave a lasting impression on visitors.
During my summer internship last year, I was given the task to illustrate the series of postcards for visitors to send to families and friends. I got to experience each exhibit for my research before sketching out the final drafts. Each letter represents a memorable part of the exhibit. It was such a rewarding experience.
To convey a broad range of exhibits in a unified style, illustrations were created based on the objects in each attraction. To ensure that the exhibition names were still legible with illustrations placed inside, the Program OT typeface was chosen for its rectangular form and curved corners, set in the bold weight for maximum space. Extensive research was conducted to ensure that each exhibit was properly represented through the illustrations. Each postcard uses a color palette inspired by the colors of the exhibit, but with extra saturation for a friendly feel.
