Cal State University Channel Islands requested a design for the new 2011-2012 Catologue.For the Cal State Channel Islands Spring 2011 CatalogueCover I wanted to portray the students rather than the administration, since after all the students will be the ones taking the catalogue home as well as the fact that ultimately the students reflect the university. The theme for the design is "Build your word" in other words use the tools and foundation that the university has to offer to build the person you want to become.

The theme for the design is "Build your word" in other words use the tools and foundation that the university has to offer to build the person you want to become.
The above design captures the energy and individuality that Channel Island tries to instillin its students. By using a vector based design I wanted to make the universities look present with pop culture, and try and stretch the boundaries by using a medium that the university had not yet tapped into for its past covers, which had been primarily made up of photographic montages.
One of the more beautiful aspects of Cal State Channel Islands University is its campus, in particular its historic buildings. Therefore I wanted to make a correlation,through my design in choosing to include the bell tower and a slightly translucent blueprint design, between the students and a building, with the right foundation both can built strong and beautiful. The color pallet used exudes a sense of energy and fun, but also gives a relaxed inviting feel to the viewer with the while and subdued blue mixed in to the background. Different types of individuals are represented, be it by hobby, gender, ethnicity, etc.thThe above design captures the energy and individuality that channel Island tries to instill in its students.
