As I wiped my eyes and woke at the break of dawn on a cold Las Vegas morning, the iridescent colors of the Nevadan desert spoke to a long dormant personality trait of mine: an unwavering appreciation of the country we live in. I pulled out my camera, placed it on my hotel room windowsill, and clicked, moving my camera to capture what I began to view as the very essence of Americana. A singular, twin engine plane made the empty skies its own; and I imagined the places this plane must have gone. From the Pacific Coast to the Panhandle, America is its cities.

In making this project, I decided that simplicity was best. With the initial photo, the rule of thirds was used to ensure the plane remains the main focus of the work. From there, I then used Adobe Photoshop CS6 to edit the Levels, Curves, and Color Balance of the image before then adding text and editing its opacity and position across the image. My inspiration behind the arrangement was ribbons used in Pride Parades around the U.S., with their flowing flexibility, I believed that they are what best represents the dynamic nature of what this piece is trying to present: Modern Americana.
