What is Access Floor?

Usually called raised access floor system, it is a system of artificial floor raised above the solid structure of a building like a slab to provide a hidden path for the easy placement and passage of the electrical and mechanical services.

Access Floor is being used in many modern buildings, telecommunication buildings and computer rooms where there is a need to pass the mechanical services, cables, and electrical wires. The trench height or floor height can be varied depending upon the services needs to be accommodated below. Usual varying heights are from 2 inches height to 4 feet height. Sometimes a height can be such that even a person can crawl or walk beneath this floor, this is a special case needed when there is a need to provide additional structural support and lightning.

Size and Design:

Usually available size of a panel is 2 ft by 2 ft. The height depends upon the services to be provided beneath. The typical clearance is at least 6 inches with the typical height varying between 2 ft to 4 ft. The panels are made of steel or polypropylene. Sometimes a floor finish may be provided on top of the panel, the finish may be carpet tiles, marble stone, and high-pressure laminates. When the top surface is cement coated in such case money can be saved by just providing a finishing touch looks like a tile appearance.

Advantages of Access Floor:

The advantages of Access Floors are following:

1. Low profile design, provides enough space while maintaining the capacity to the maximum.
2 . Easy Alterations, changes can be made easily.
3 . Installation is fast that is time-saving.
4 . Eco-friendly, Propylene material is recyclable and can be used.
5 . Durability, the system can be used for a long time providing the proper care.

10 . Repairs are easy to do, as the panels can be removed easily so cracks and defects can be detected easily.

Structural Problems regarding Access Floor

The structural problems regarding Access floor are:
