High Spirits
Written as a creative writing thesis project, "High Spirits: Interwoven Short Stories on Dominican Diaspora" is an engaging set of 5 short stories. Set at 76 pages long, it is an accessible and fast-paced read. It explores themes of machismo, mental health, Dominican-Immigrant identity, storytelling, diaspora and more through the lens of a single extended Dominican-American family throughout multiple generations and perspectives.
Design
After finishing the process of writing and editing, I was tasked as a designer to format the stories as a book, typesetting the copy and making it digestible. I designed the cover using hand-drawings, iPad hand lettering, and Adobe CC. I additionally added visual elements like a family tree and family illustrations.
