I have always wanted to create a time-lapse piece, and I finally decided to take the first leap with this project. There is something magical about watching the fair come to life at night.

I shot this on October 11, 2012 from 2:00-8:00 PM with a Canon 50 D, and created the stop-motion film from still-frame photographs. There are about 500 frames that create the 1 minute film.

I enjoyed creating this film for it’s display of authenticity and playfulness. It was just another day at the fair that year, with workers who would stand up there for hours and watch as the night would come alive. This was the view from the highest point to see the bright lights. The movie accurately portraits the swaying of the giant slide as it moved back and forth in the wind. That movement mimics the feeling of the busy excitement of the fair.

Room for improvement: Really watch the weather and photograph on a day with a more “dramatic” sky line.
